REPORT OF THE ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEENTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CAMBRIAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION HELD AT CHESTER 15TH TO 19TH AUGUST, 1966 Owing to the sad death, a few weeks before the meeting, of the President-Elect, Alderman P. H. Lawson, the General Committee invited Mr. George Lloyd of Shotton, a distinguished member since 1940, to assume the Presidency. The meeting was conducted, therefore, under his leadership. On MONDAY, 15TH AUGUST, the General Committee met in the morning. The afternoon was devoted to the Cathedral and Monastic Buildings under the guidance of Canon C. E. Jarman. Tea was provided in the Refectory by kind invitation of Miss Mvfanwv Williams and Mrs. W. J. Hemp. After the installation of the new President, a lecture on Chester houses was given by Mr. J. T. Smith, of the R.C.H.M., who had previously collaborated with the late Alderman Lawson in papers on this subject. On TUESDAY, 16TH AUGUST, the first visit was to Peover Superior Church, where Dr. Mostyn Lewis was the speaker this was followed by the Sandbach Crosses, where Mr. Richard Bailey spoke. Lunch was at Little Moreton Hall, where Mr. Frangcon Lloyd spoke on the building. In the afternoon Mr. George Lloyd spoke at Astbury Church and Mr. John Brierly at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal. The President kindly provided tea at Styal. In the evening a Civic Reception was given at the Town Hall by kind invitation of the Mayor, Councillor Mrs. F. M. Grogan. On WEDNESDAY, 17TH AUGUST, morning visits were paid to the Grosvenor Museum when the Curator, Mr. D. Petch, spoke, and to St. John's Church, when Mr. D. C. Whitehead was the speaker. After lunch at the College two visits were paid to Roman sites, firstly at Heronbridge and secondly at Holt: Mr. D. F. Petch was the speaker at both sites. Tea was afterwards provided by courtesy of Colonel and Mrs. Jones-Mortimer at their delightful house, Hartsheath. In the evening the Public Lecture, on Roman Chester was given by Mr. D. Petch. On THURSDAY, 18TH AUGUST, Mr. I). C. King spoke at the first site visited, that of Ewloe Castle. Members then visited the medieval village of Hen Caerwys, where the recent excavations were exlpained by Mr. Pennant Williams, Mr. G. B. Leach, and Mr. J. E. Messham. The Chairman of the Flint County Council, Councillor T. Fish, generously provided lunch at the Civic Centre at Connahs Quay. The afternoon was spent at Hawardcn, where Mr. King spoke at the old castle, and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gladstone kindly showed members over the present castle and W. E. Gladstone's study. The Flintshire Historical Society kindly provided tea at the Record Office at Hawarden. In the evening the Annual General Meeting was held at the College.
