CHRISTMAS DAY. We had our usual services at the Church on Christmas Day, but the congregations in the morning were rather disappointing. We do not know when people will realise that Christmas is a religious festival, and not merely a day for bodily enjoyment. Very few have done so in the present age. There were three celebrations of the Holy Communion, at 8, 10, and 11-30. At the English service the Te Deum was sung to Dykes in F, and the Jubilate to Sullivan in D, the special anthem being " For unto us a child is born." The Communion service followed, sung to Stainer in F. Immediately after the Welsh evening service a series of pieces from the " Messiah " were beautifully rendered. The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis were sung to special settings, and the anthem after the third Collect was "Ac yr oedd yn y wlad honno," of which the solo was taken by Miss Ellen Owen. The " Messiah " pieces were sung in the following order :—Tenor Recitative, " Comfort ye," and Solo, " Every valley" (sung by Mr. T. Lloyd); Chorus, "And the Glory "; Bass Recitative, "Thus saith the Lord," and Solo, " But who may abide " (sung by Mr. J.W. Cooke); Chorus, "And He shall purify"; Recitative, "Behold a Virgin shall conceive," and Solo,"0 thou that tellest" (sung by Mr. R. H. Morgan); Chorus, "O thou that tellest"; Bass Solo, "The people that walked in darkness" (sung by Mr. J. W. Cooke); Chorus, " For unto us a child is born." A Welsh Carol, " Yn nghanol gwlad Judea dlos," and a hymn brought the musical part of the service to a close. On the Sunday evening following, after the sermon, the following pieces were rendered :—" O thou that tellest " (Solo by Mr. R. H. Morgan and Chorus by the Choir); " Canwn felus garol"; "Addewid rasusol ein Duw," and " Seren Bethlehem," by different selected parties ; " Mawr achos llawenhau," by a Male Voice
