"$* *$? 4? *& •»• I) ->-^»o <- On Tuesday next, 16th November 1909, the whole Church will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Pope Pius X., our gloriously reigning Pontiff and Father. Members of the Catholic Mission of Llanrwst, we will all unite our prayers and thanks¬ givings with those of the Catholic world, and we will ask Almighty GOD to grant long life to, and bless abundantly, a Pontiff at once so meek and so firm, so courageous and so patient... Why should we have such a devotion to the Pope ? Because he is the Vicar of Jesus Christ upon earth, the visible Head of His Holy Church, and the spiritual Father, Shepherd and Teacher of all Christians, as being the successor of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, whom our Blessed Saviour appointed to be the head of the Church and made the Shepherd of the whole Flock: " Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it ; and to thee I will give the keys of the kingdom of Heaven ; and whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shalt be loosed also in heaven " (St. Matth., xvi, 18 & 19). " Feed nay Lambs ;...feedmy Sheep " (St. John, xxi, 16 & 17). " I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren " (St. Luke, xxn, 32)... His Holiness Pope PIUS X (Joseph Melchior Saeto), the 258th Eoman Pontiff, was born at Eiese, in the Province of Venice (North Italy), June 12, 1838 ; ordained Priest, September 18, 1858, and made Bishop of Mantua, November 16, 1884; was created Cardinal, June 12, 1893, and became Patriarch of Venice, June 15, 1893 ; and was pro¬ claimed Pope, August 4, 1903, and crowned at St. Peter's, August 9, 1903...
