Francis Joseph MOSTYN, D.D., was born at Talacre, North Wales, on the 6th of August, 1860,—being the fourth son of Sir Pyers Mostyn (8th Baronet) by the Honble. Frances Fraser, daughter of the 14th Lord Lovat. Through his maternal grandmother, a daughter of the 8th Lord Stafford, the Bishop is descended from three of the English Martyrs,'—the Ven. Philip Howard (Earl of Arundel), the Ven. William Howard (Viscount Stafford), and Blessed Margaret Pole (Countess of Salisbury). He was educated at Oscott and Ushaw; and, ordained at Our Lady's Church, Birkenhead, on September 14, 1884, he there became Assistant-Priest to his cousin, the late Mgr. Slaughter, whom he succeeded as Rector (in 1891).—Consecrated Bishop of As- calon and Vicar Apostolic of Wales, by Cardinal H. Vaughan, on the 14th of September, 1895, he was translated to Menevia, on the creation of that See (May 14, 1898). In our congregation's and in my own name, I have asked His Lordship, who has just been celebrating the Silver Jubilee of his Priesthood, to kindly accept, together with our respectful congratulations, our heartfelt wishes for a very long, happy and fruitful Episco¬ pate in our midst. Mgr. Mostyn has sent us the following reply : " My dear Father Trebaol,—Many thanks for your kind wishes and those of your little Flock... With my blessing and thanks to all,—Yours very sincerely in Xt., f Francis,. Bishop of Menevia. 0 GOD. the Pastor and Governor of all the faithful, mercifully look upon thy servant Francis, whom Thou hast been pleased to appoint the Pastor of the Church of Menevia ; grant, we beseech Thee, that both by word and example he may edify those over whom he is set ; and, together with the Flock committed to his care, may attain everlasting life: Through Christ our Lord. Amen. G.M. TBEBAOL, O.M.I.
