35i The Gwynnes of Glanbran (Vol. II., p. 326; Vol. III., p. 97).—To the very interesting history of this ancient family I can add the following particulars:—Rhytherch Gwyn of Glanbran had two sons, David of Glanbran, and Rees Gwyn of Llwynhowel, which estate he acquired through his wife Dorothy co-heiress of Llwynhowel; (she re-m. 2ndly to David Gwyn of Cynghordy, and was a dau. of Rhytherch ap Rhys Vychan of Llwynhowel, son of Rhys Vachan ap Gwilym of Llwynhowel, son of Gwilym ap Rhys, who m. the dau. of David ap Thomas of Blaentren, and was the second son of Rhys ap Philip of Llwynhowel, see Old Wales, Vol. III., p. 221 ; Dorothy's sister Jane m. to Thos. Wynn ap Morgan Ychan). Rees Gwyn's son William ap Rhys, living 1596, m. the dau. of Lewis Bowen ap Sir Walter of Llandovery, and had a son Rees Gwyn who m. the dau. of Gregory Morris, and sold Llwynhowel to his cousin David Gwyn (see Vol. II., p. 327). The will of Rowland Gwyn who was owner of Glanbran in 1596, and High Sheriff of co. Carm. two years later, was dated 1618, when his wife Gwen- Uian was aged 35. He was dead in 1635. There is an error in the 7th line of p. 329, Vol. II., which should read " David (not George) Gwynne's elder brother^ Rhydderch (or Roderick) Gwynne of Glanbran." Both were living 1596 and 1613. Rhytherch's son Howell Gwynne of Glanbran was elected Bailiff of Llandovery 1660, and was. living two years later. Howell's eldest son Rowland Gwynne of Glanbran was elected Bailiff of Llandovery 1661. and Church Warden of Llanfair 1684, and his third son Roderic Gwynne of Llanfair Cilgedine, Mon., was sworn a Burgess of Llandovery 21 Oct. 1661. It was this Roderic's grandson, Roderic Gwynne (Vol. II., p. 102), who "erected the present mansion of Glanbran."
