flrwpstli Deanerp magazine. Vol. VI. (New Series). APRIL, 1910. No. 208. LLANIDLOES. Mothers' Union.—As Lady Lay this year fell on Good Friday the Mothers' Union Anniversary was necessarily postponed, and the annual Celebration of the Holy Com¬ munion, at which we hope all members will make an effort to be present, will be on Wednesday, April 20th, at 8 a.m. Holy Week — The Vicar gave short addresses each night from Monday to Thurs¬ day (on our Lord's seven injunctions in Gethsemane) to fairly good congregations. Good Friday.- -None of our readers having expressed any wish for the retention of the Three Hour's Service, Matins with Sermon was substituted and the change seemed to he a popular one, as there was a very good attendance. There was no music except hymns—unaccompanied —and the severe simplicity of the service was well calculated to mark the character of the day. In the evening there was shortened Evensong, followed by the singing of Maunder's Cantata. '• Olivet to Calvary." Mr. Tom Phillips had taken infinite pains over this and the singing quite justified his efforts, being marked by accuracy and devotion. The solos were well rendered by Messrs. J. Davies, R. M. Davies, Chas. Evans, J. Jones, T. Phillips and Albert Roberts, Miss Webb and Miss Lily Roberts. The Cantata had been previously sung on Passion Sunday after evening service, the sermon being omitted. There were *good congregations on each occasion. Easter Day.—The Church had, as usual, been beautifully decorated for the great Festival. Font, Mrs. Vaughan Owen; South windows, Miss Jones, Close; North windows, Miss Parker, Miss Phillips and Mrs. Roberts; Pulpit, Miss Webb; Lectern, Miss Davies, Llwyn ; Stalls, Miss Griffiths, Commerce House ; East End, Mrs. Alderson, Mrs. Hollings and Mrs. R. O. Jones. The attendance of Communicants was somewhat disappointing, only 180 being present, a falling over from the last few years, though of course much higher than used to be customary. Many of our Communicants were absent and we.had few visitors. We hope many will make their commu'nion on Sunday, April 3rd, and so join in the Easter Thanksgiving, voiced in the Proper Preface. The Easter Offering amounted to £15 0s. Id., for which the Vicar desires to return his hearty thanks. Confirmation —The following candidates from Llanidloes were confirmed at Llandinam on Passion Sunday, March 13th: George A. Derry, Benjamin Griffiths, George A. Hamer, Felicia Annie Higgs, Albert H. Hopper, Evan D. Hughes, John Henry Jenkins, Ada Minnie Shepstone, Elizabeth J. Shep- stone, and Llewelyn D. Wood. The service —excellently rendered though it was— was much too long, as there was full evening service up to the end of the third collect and also two baptisms. The Bishop's address was mercifully brief and to the point. Waxworks.—An excellent Entertainment, consisting of a musical programme inter¬ spersed with an exhibition of Mrs. Jarley's Waxworks, was given on Wednesday, March 30th, in aid of the Band of Hope funds. We append the programme and need only say that the respective singers did their part well. Mr. Albert Roberts made a thoroughly laughable and pleasing Mrs. Jarley, Messrs. Fred Davies and Llew. Webb made effective play, as assistants, with chisels, oil can and screw, and the waxworks were most conscientiously motionless. We understand that the financial results were
