flrwpstli Deanerp magazine. Vol. V. (New Series). MAY, 1909. No. 197. CHORAL FESTIVAL. The Choral Festival will be held at Tref- eglwys this year—for the first time in the last twenty or so. The date is fixed for Wednesday, June 16, which we trust will not clash with any farming operations. There will be a Rehearsal at 4 p.m., Tea at 5 and Evening Service at 6-39. For the convenience of the choirs we reprint the following paragraph from our December issue, but must add that the hymns finally chosen to be sung are 514, 550, 583 and 603. The Anthem chosen is Sir George Elvey's " I was glad when they said unto me " (Novello, 3d. and lid.) Suggested hymns— of which four or five will be finally selected— 603, 550, 523, 514, 583, 530, 521 and 533. Cantate to Henley (Psalm XXXV.); Deusto Wickes (Psalm LIV.) ; Psalm CIII. and CXLV1. to Mornington (Psalm CXXXV.) and Worgan (Psalm XXII.) Vesper Hymn No. 2, by Caleb Simper (Id. from the author, Kilburnie, Barnstaple, or words only Is. per 100). LLANIDLOES. It will be seen that practically no room at all is left for this unimportant parish this month but there shall be full reports next month of Good Friday, Easter Day, the Easter Vestry, the Kinderspiel, the Bells Fund, the Men's Guild, C.E.T.S.., and various other matters We can only add now a few necessary notes. The Vicar begs once more to thank the congregation for their liberal contributions on Easter Day, amounting to close on £16. A pretty wedding was solemnised in the Parish Church, on Wednesday, April 28, between Mr. WTilliam Morgan and Miss Jane Jerman, after which, by the kindness of Mr. Nuttall and his ringers, the bells rang out merrily. Our best wishes go with the bride and bridegroom. The Congregation will be sorry to hear that the A.C.S. has finally decided to with¬ draw the grant which it has for many years given to this parish, and which lately had been reduced to £30. Under the circum¬ stances, the Vicar does not think it at all probable that he will be able to retain the Curate's services later than next September. LLANQURIQ. Despite the unfavourable weather there was a good muster of Church members at the annual tea which was given this year on Easter Monday. At the tables presided Mrs. Evans, Pengeulan, Mrs. Evans, Glan- gwy, Mrs. Jones, Penbryn, assisted by a band of willing workers. In the evening there followed an exceedingly interesting concert in preparation for which Mr. Soffe had indefatigably worked for weeks and months with the Children's Guild, the Choir, and the Glee Party. Mr. Campbell proved himself an efficient chairman over a pro¬ gramme of 32 items, and Miss Rowbotham and Miss Emily Pryse ably presided at the musical instruments. The following juniors entertained us much with their songs, dialogues and recitations :—Abner Soffe, Enid Soffe, Dorothy Lovell, Ada Lovell, Esther Lovell, xMartha E. Owen, Maggie J. Owen, Evelyn M. Davies, Margaret Griffiths, Mary Griffiths, Annie Griffiths, Rubena Jones, Evan O. Owen. The Children's Guild scored with their three songs; the Glee Party creditably acquitted themselves in their parts ; and the Choir were success¬ ful on the three occasions they appeared. Songs were given by Misses Flora Campbell^ M. J. Price, Messrs. Soffe, R. Rovvbothanv Leslie Rowbotham, W. Jones ; recitations by Misses A. Davies and A. Evans, and all materially contributed to the success of the entertainment.
