Hiwtli Deanerp magazine. Vol. V. (New Series). MARCH, 1909. No. 195. LLANSDLOES. The Bishop will hold a Confirmation in the Parish Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 21st. Candidates should be in their places ten minutes before the hour. It has been a curious experience to be without bells for a week, but their silence has proclaimed the fact that th< y are being put in order for real ringing. There remains a sum of about £20 still to be raised. The popular Vicar of Llanystumdwy gave a lecture on Church Defence on Feb. 17. The papers of that date contained the King's Speech with its promise of a Hill for our Disendow ment and that no doubt improved the attendance. We are inclined to think that churchpeople generally throughout the country are treating the matter far too lightly- an attitude always fraught with danger. Members of the Mothers' Union are re¬ minded of the approach of their Anniversary Festival on March 25. There will be a celebration of Holy Communion at 8 a.m. and special sermon by the Vicar of Llan- dinam at 7-30. The Fund for buying our own supply of crocUery now at £6 6s.—the first Social producing £2 19s., the second £2, and the Xmas Party £1 7s. Churchmen's Guild.—" Is Great Britain, as a nation, rising or falling?" was the subject of an animated discussion on Feb¬ ruary 3rd. The affirmative view was championed by Mr. A. Price, and the negative by Mr. Cameron. Nearly all present took part in the debate and the voting showed that the majority of them did not think that the nation was on the downgrade. The next week's meeting was postponed to enable the members to attend the Church Defence meeting. Last week Mr. Grady gave a very interesting address on " Fleet Street," and referred to the multifarious ways in which a great daily newspaper is produced. C.E.T.S.—A marked improvement in the attendance was noticeable during the past month. Excellent programmes of a miscel¬ laneous character were provided, one meeting being devoted to games. At one meeting the Rev. T. P. Rees gave an address upon the " Forward Movement," which is to be held under the auspices of the parent Society (a brief history of which he gave) between the 15th Sept. and 3 5th Dec. next. The Society has set before itself the task of en¬ rolling one million new adult members, and hopes that all the members will in the meanwhile pray for Divine blessing on the movement. Obituary.--We regret to announce the death of Mr. William Morgan, Bear Inn, which took place somewhat suddenly on January 17th. Our sympathy is extended to the family in their bereavement. " The Gipsies."—The annual Easter Dramatic Entertainment will take place on April 15th, when " The Gipsies," a very pretty kinderspiel will be performed. We hear from those well qualified to judge that i i attractiveness it js likely to eclipse even the productions of the last two years. Lent Services.—The first of the special weekly Lenten Services was held on Ash Wednesday night, when the Vicar preached. Last Wednesday night an impressive sermon was delivered by the Rev. L. H. Evans, M.A., Vicar of Rhayader. The remaining services will be held on Thursdays, when the follow¬ ing will preach :—March 11th, Rev. Gvvilym
