Lewis, of Llanystumdwy, will give an address on Church Defence in the National Schools, on Wednesday, Feb- ruary 17, at 8 p.m., when we hope for a large attendance. C.E.T.S. — The annual Social of the C.E.T.S. on New Year's Eve was largely attended. A varied programme was gone through, those who took part heing Miss Evans (Llangurig), Miss Florrie Rees, and Messrs. Evan Rees (secretary), Ernest Jones, and Harry Williams. There were also com¬ petitions, and Miss Florrie Rets played the dance music. Interesting miscellaneous programmes were provided during the month, but one of the weekly meetings was not held to enable the members to attend the temperance meeting addressed by the Rev. J. A. Rees (Vicar of Rhoscolyn) at the Public Hall. Last Monday night an interest¬ ing address was given by the Rev. James Jones, Vicar of Llandinam. Men's Guild.—At the first meeting of the Churchmen's Guild in December papers were read by Mr. Pryce Williams on " Heroism," and by Mr. Arthur Jones on "The Life of the Soldier." The officers were responsible for the programme at the ensuing meeting, the subjects chosen by them from the day's newspapers being as follows:—"The Suffragette Question," the Vicar; " House of Lords," Rev. T. P. Rees ; "The recent Trades Union's Levy decision," Mr. Charles Brown ; " Professionalism in Sports," Mr. Nuttall; whilst Mr. J. Owen dealt with "Ubique's " criticism of the Guild in a local newspaper. At the last meeting of the year the Rev. T. P. Rees gave an ad¬ dress on " Various phases of the Protestant Reformation." Papers on Wordsworth and Charles Dickens were given by Mr. Grady and Mr. E. L. Spencer respectively at the first meeting in January ; " The Franco- British Exhibition " was the subject of Mr. R. M. Davies' paper at the next meeting, and the following one was occupied by a very interesting practical demonstration of Ambu¬ lance Work, given by the local railway team, consisting of Messrs. C. Brown (captain), A. Phillips, J. Walters, G. Davies, and J. Pugh. On the 27th, Mr. J. Owen (the Secretary) read a paper on the Boer War, which led to an interesting discussion. Christmas Trek. — The second annual Xmas Tree to the members of the Band of Hope was given on New Year's Day. The children had eagerly looked forward to the event, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The tree (kindly given by Mr. Plump- ton, Yaynor Park), was laden with gifts, and had been very artistically decorated. The first part of the programme consisted of the following items : Pianoforte solo, Oueenie Vincent ; mouth organ solo, Ewart Lewis ; recitations, Mary Edwards, Edwina Alder- sen, Florrie Brown, Harry Jones, LI. Wood, and Eddie Higgs. Santa Claus (represented in orthodox garb by Mr. Arthur Webb) after¬ wards distributed gifts to about 140 children. Subscriptions were kindly given by Messrs. D. Davies and J. D. Rees, M.Ps., Mrs. Vaughan Owen, Mrs. Paul, Mrs. R. George, and Miss Jerman ; and Messrs. E. L. Short, John Davies (Llwyn), E. L. Spencer, and Robert Hughes. Our thanks are due to them, and also to the following for their valuable assistance : Miss Jones (Clois), Miss Webb, Miss Lena Davies, and Messrs. Arthur Webb, J. Arthur Jones, and R. Gurney. Xmas Party, Social, and other matter crowded out. TREFEGLWYS. A small parcel of garments—worked by the Montgomeryshire Guild of Needle- workers, and- sent to the Vicar towards the end of last December was duly distributed as per request. The sum of £2 was last year collected in this parish in aid of the Church of England Waifs and Strays' Society. The collectors were Miss Jerman and Miss Bennett-Owen. The sum of £16 is, according to estimate, needed towards pointing the Churchyard wall with cement, painting the woodwork of the Church steeple, and also painting the troughings around the Church.
