Anrostll Deanerp magazine. Vol. IV. (New Series). JANUARY, 1908. No. 181. LLANIDLOES. Owing to great pressure of copy from other parishes, our space is so restricted that we regret we cannot give list of decor¬ ators and helpers in the various entertain¬ ments, etc., recorded. Mothers' Union.—On Monday, Dec. 9th. a large number of the members assembled at the National School, and after enjoying an excellent tea, kindly given by Mrs. Onslow, listened with great interest to a very practical and suggestive address from the Rev. Dr. Jones-Powell, Rector of Llanfrynach. Ten new members were enrolled. C.E.T.S.—In the evening of the same day, Dr. Jones-Powell addressed the members of the C.E.T.S. The attendance was fair, but not so good as the excellence of the lecture deserved. The Society is going steadily on and doing good work.—A very enjoyable Social, confined to members, was held on New Year's Eve. After a miscellaneous entertainment and the announcement of the result in the Limerick Competition, in which Mr. Charles Brown was adjudged first and Mr. Albert Roberts second, tea was partaken of, and dancing and games followed till the New Year was ushered in with the singing of " O God, our help in ages past." The Rummage Sale took place on Mon¬ day, Dec. 16th. Miss Parker and Miss Griffiths, Commerce House, had. canvassed energetically for the sale and the School Teachers for the tea, and their efforts were rewarded by a nett taking of £12, which goes to the Reserve Fund—most of which we hope to see devoted to the " Bells." The Christmas Party came off on Friday, Dec. 27th, when nearly eighty were present and seemed to enjoy themselves even better than in past years. The music was provided by the Cedewain Quadrille Quartet, and dancing was kept up till midnight. After defraying all expenses there was a balance of £2 5s., which goes towards paying for the new movable step-ladder for the Church. Dance Practices had taken place for three or four weeks before the Christmas Party, and at the request of many another practice will be held on Friday, January 10th. Christmas Dav was not so Christmaslike in weather, but the congregations were good and the morning service especially hearty and beautiful. The communicants, while up to the general average, fell short of the last two years. The morning anthem was Stainer's " It came upon the midnight clear," and the evening one Allen's " In the Begin¬ ning was the Word," the solos being taken by Mr. Chas. Owen and Miss Cris Ken- respectively. Band of Hope.—The members had a great treat on New Year's Day, when they were given an entertainment and Christmas Tree. Beginning with a miscellaneous programme, interest culminated in the strip¬ ping of the Christmas Tree, which was a large one. reaching to the ceiling, and which provided presents for every child. It had be"en beautifully decorated by Miss Jones (Close), Miss Annie Evans, Mr. Arthur Webb (who played the part of Santa Claus), Mr. J. Arthur Jones and others. We hope to find space for the programme and other par¬ ticulars next month. A lecture on Church Defence will be given on Tuesday, January 28th, by Mr. David Williams, Barrister-at-law, in the Schoolroom, at 8 p.m.
