flriDpstli Deanerp magazine. Vol. III. (New Series). OCTOBER, 1907. No. 178. GENERAL. Additional Curates Society. — Canon Petit has asked us to print the following statement about the A.C.S.—The mainten¬ ance of existing grants seems likely to re¬ sult in a deficit of £2,000 in the Society's accounts at the end of 1907. This is un¬ fortunate in itself, and is a great hindrance to Church work, because 40 Incumbents of large parishes are, as a result, being kept waiting for new grants which they urgently require in order to provide additional Clergy for the increased number of people now in their parishes. The Society suggests that every Churchman (or Churchwoman) who does not at present subscribe to the A.C.S., and can afford as much as a guinea a year, should accept the invitation given by this paragraph, and send a guinea during October to Canon Petit, the Secretary of the A.C.S., 39, Victoria Street, Westminster. For safety, Postal Orders (and cheques) may be crossed " Coutts and Co., account of Additional Curates Society." LLANIDLOES. We are glad to say that Mr. Thomas Penrhys Rees was duly ordained by the Bishop of Bangor on St. Matthew's Day and licenced to the Curacy of this parish. He spent his first Sunday here on Sept. 29th and preached morning and evening, giving, we believe, general satisfaction. He hopes to be settled very soon : there has been a difficulty about a house or else he would have been in residence before now. The Harvest Festival will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next, Oct. 8th and 9th, the services being the same as usual, i.e., Welsh Evensong and Sermon on Tues¬ day at 7, and the English Services on Wednesday at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., and 7 p.m. The preacher on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings will be the Rev. J. P. Lewis, formerly of Conway, now of Llanystumdwy, and on Wednesday morning the Rev. J. Allen Jones, of Llanyblodwel, will preach. The Choir Trip took place on Monday, Sept. 30th, when a larger number than usual mustered at the station for an expedition to Chester, where they spent a very enjoyable day in visiting the various sights. The younger boys spent the day at Aberyswyth. We beg to thank the following subscribers and Miss Walters of Penrallt for collecting : £ s. d. Vicar ... 1 0 Mrs. J. R.
