flrtopstli Deanerp magazine. Vol. III. (New Series). SEPTEMBER, 1907. No. 177. LLANIDLOES. We much regret to record the death of Ahraham Owen, who passed away some¬ what suddenly at the end. He was a staunch Churchman, and will be much missed by all who knew him, and not least by the Vicar, to whom he was a most faith¬ ful friend. Another familiar face has disappeared with Mrs. Jerman, the Hall, who died on Sunday, September 1st. The entrance to the Public Rooms will seem strange without her. The Schools' Trip took place on Monday, September 2nd, and we are sorry to say the weather was of the worst description, even for this unfortunate year. In other respects — i.e., in numbers, etc., it was a successful day. We hope to publish the accounts and list of subscribers, etc., next month. The Vicar was successful in carrying off two prizes-—each of the value of three guineas—at the National Eisteddfod this year. No arrangements have yet been made for the Harvest Festival which must necessarily be late this year, but we hope to give full particulars in our next. A new vesper hymn will be adopted for use after the Blessing at the evening service, beginning this month, the words of which are as follows :— Grant us Thy peace, O God of Peace and Love Who dvvellest in the shining worlds above : Grant us with Thee forever to abide, Where is no night nor falling eventide. Till that Day break and earth"s dark shadows cease, O God of Peace and Love, grant us Thy Peace. The Vicar's two little volumes of transla¬ tions have been included by the Central Welsh Board in their syllabus for the coming year and a new edition of " Welsh Lyrics of the xixth Century," (first series) has been pub¬ lished by J. E. Southall, of Newport, at 1 -. BAPTISMS. June 11th.—Thomas Harold Hughes. „ 12th.—Margaret Henrietta Benbow. „ 24th.—Charlotte Elvie Higgs. LLANGURIG. The Sunday School Treat took place on Wednesday, August 28th, and in this sum¬ mer of continual rain, we have special cause for rejoicing at having been favoured with a bright day of warmth and sunshine. Through the kindness of Mrs. Lloyd-Verney, not only all the members of the Sunday School but also the parents of the children were invited, so that a goodly gathering mustered by the appointed hour at the Church House, where they were met by the Llanidloes Silver Band, which, with enliven¬ ing strains of music, led the procession up to Clochfaen. Arrived there all sat down to a most enjoyable tea laid out in the grounds in the shade of the trees. Prizes were given by Mrs. Lloyd-Verney to the following successful scholars :—Elsie Jones, Mary E. Jones, Mary A. Evans, Leslie C. Rowbotham, and Mr. J. T. Griffith, while each individual member was presented with some pretty and useful gift. Advantage was taken of the occasion to hand over to Master Leslie Rowbotham the prize awarded him by the Bangor Diocesan Board of Education for securing in their examination the sixth
