flnopstli Deanerp rnaaazine. Vol. III. (New Series). AUGUST, 1907. No. 176. LLANIDLOES. The Vicar returned from his holiday on August 2nd, having heen much more fortun¬ ate in the weather" he met with than most people have been. Indeed at Towyn, Dolgelley and Criccieth, during the weeks he spent there, the rain was conspicuous by its absence. Though on a holiday he got through a fair amount of work, preaching six times, besides giving a Mothers' Union address and taking many services. We are glad to think that Mr. Collier, who was much run down when he came here, benefited very considerably in health during his stay among us. He seems to have given especial satisfaction in the Sunday School, and was himself much pleased by the men's class. It gives us very much pleasure to announce that the Vicar has at last secured a curate, Mr. T. Penrhys Rees having accepted a title to Llanidloes for the ensuing ordination next September. Mr. Rees will come to us with ithe highest possible recommendation, and we look forward to his doing good work in the parish which has of course suffered from the Vicar being single-handed. When we inserted a paragraph last month about a possible Garden Party in August, we did so under the impression that such weather as we were then having could not go on indefinitely, and that we were pretty sure of a fine August. But alas ! as we write it is pouring steadily and as cold as most Novembers, and it seems quite hope¬ less to attempt to fix a date. We fear that suggested Party must rank among the things that " might have been." The Sunday School Trip seems likely to be late this year, as the Nonconformists have announced theirs for August 19th, and we cannot well have ours within less than a fortnight later. September 2nd therefore seems at present the most probable date. Perhaps by then the summer will have begun. We regret to record the death of William Jones, Bryn Place, who died on August 4th, at the age of 75. He was a very regular attendant at the daily service. The Church has lost two regular members in Nurse Corser and Miss Withers of the County School. No new nurse seems yet to have been appointed. Nurse Corser did excellent work, especially in the time of the typhoid epidemic last autumn. It is unfortunate that for some reason or other our nurses rarely stay long with us. Why is this ? BAPTISM. July 20th.—Beryl Doreen Vaughan Owen. MARRIAGE. August 7th.—Thomas Henry Evans James and Lily Victoria Cooke.
