Hrwpstli Deanerp magazine. Vol. II. (New Series). NOVEMBER, 1906. No. 167. LLANIDLOES. On October 17th, Dr. Llewelyn Davies oave a most interesting and enjoyable lecture in the National School, on " Japan and the Far East." The slides were the most beau¬ tiful we have ever seen, and those who did not attend missed a real treat. The lantern was ably managed by Mr. R. Hamilton Owen, and tableaux and songs by Miss Lily Webb, the Misses Kerr and Miss Sybil, and Masters Bennett and Cecil Vaughan Owen. Mr. J. R. Pryse, Pantdrain, made an active chair¬ man. The nett proceeds (£2 12s.) were handed over to the National School Funds. At a recent meeting of the Managers, a vote of thanks was passed to Dr. Davies. Want of space last month prevented us from mentioning the wedding of Miss Maggie Owen, recorded below, which was a very pretty one. Unfortunately it is another case of a marriage being a loss to the Church at Llanidloes, the newly married couple now residing in South Wales, and in this instance the bride's mother— Mrs. Margaret Owen, of Picton Street—a very faithful Church woman, has also left the town. There will be a special service with sermon for members of the Mothers' Union, on Wednesday, November 28th, at 7-30. The preacher's name will be announced later. The first ' Church Social ' of the season will take place probably on November 16th. It is intended, we believe, to follow this up with a Xmas Party in Xmas week ; one Social just before Lent ; and if these are successful and well patronised, a concluding one in Easter week : Easter falling very early in 1907. The bell ropes in Church are in a shocking state after many years of hard wear, and as these must necessarily be replaced, it is in¬ tended to consult experts as to whether some system of stays cannot be set up which will allow of the bells being properly rung as they were before the gallery was taken down. We beg to thank the following who kindly contributed to the Choir Trip this year, the amount received being larger than for many years past—a tribute no doubt to the energy and popularity of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Davies. Subscribers :—The Vicar, £1 Is. : Mrs. D. LI. Kinsey, £1 Is.; Mr. Bull, £1 Is.; Mr. Morris (Dol-llys), £1 Is.; Mr. D. The annual Rummage Sale will be held this year on Monday, December 17th. We hope all our readers will remember this event, and look out anything the}7 may have to spare—especially clothes. Preaching on Sunday evening, Nov. 7th, the Vicar alluded to the loss the Church had sustained by the death of the Dowager Marchioness of Londonderry, whom he spoke of as a most humble-minded Christian, and the highest type of an English gentlewoman. Proceeding to speak of the late Archdeacon Williams, whose tragic death we alluded to last month, he said that talking of him in that pulpit he could well apply to him Wren's Epitaph in St. Pauls' Cathedral: " Si monu- mentum quceris, circumspicc,"' i.e., " If you seek his monument look around you." Apart from his restoration of the Church, it was hard to estimate his work, for such work
