Many readers out-side as well as within this parish will he interested to hear that Mr. Parker Jones who ■has heen recruiting at home underwent an operation on July 27th It seems to have been a very severe and complicated one, as lie was two hours under chloroform, but his many sympathisers will be glad to hear that he was pronounced out of danger the follow¬ ing week, and the latest bulletin reports that he is going on quite well. Those who wish to write to him .should direct their letters to c/o Dr. Wright, Folliptt House, Chester. The Vicar accepted a holiday curacy for the last two Sundays of July at Crieeieth, where extra holp is .always needed in the summer months, owing to the influx of visitors, and his place was taken at ^Llanidloes by Mr Da vies, Vicar of Llangynfelyn, which is Mr. Parker Jones-' native parish. Mr. Davie*, who is a clever and original preacher, pro¬ duced a very good impression. During his absence from home the Vicar attended a meeting At Jbangor, and secured a promise from the Dean to come and preach at our Harvest Festival next month. The sermons at the Welsh service and at the morning English service will be preached by the Rev. Canon Lloyd Jones, Kector of Criccieth and Rural Dean of Eifionydd. At the raid-day celebration on August 7th, the Vicar had the assistance of the Rev. W. 8. B- Petrie, Rector of Strichen, who was making a, short stav at Llanidloes, and who also read the lessons morning and evening. We wish he could have preached, but lie,pleaded holiday time. We are sorry to record the death of Mrs. Jane Jones, wife of Mr. Richard Jones, Westgate House, which took place after a very brief illness on Sunday, July 31st. Mrs. Jones was of a very quiet and retak¬ ing nature, and was probably almost unknown to the newer generation of our Churohpeople, but she was much respected by those who knew her, and will be sorely missed by her family with whom we wish to express our deep sympathy. The funeral which took place on Wednesday, August 3rd, was conducted, in the unavoidable absence of the Vicar, by the Rev. James Jones, Vicar of Llandinam. The Rev. D R Lewis, Rector of DyfFryn, who examined the Sunday School on June 29th, reports " This a bright, and well-behaved School, and all evinced an intelligent interest in the examination. Certificates are awarded to Cecilia Roberts, Eleanor Palmer, Beatrice Roberts, Ada Walters, Cassie Jones, Nellie Jones, Bertie Lewis, Albert Evans, John Owen, Arthur Movie, and Robert Jones." Of the infants who wei-e examined the same day, Mr. John Dalies reports, '* This is a very well taught School, and the answering was very good and showed intelligent teaching " Certificates are awarded to Annie Thomas, Sarah Elizabeth Wood, Felicia Higgs, Lilian Alderson, Florrie Carter, Mona Kermode, John Lloyd, Edith Mary Hughes, Mary Morris, George Moyle, John Toy, Annie Lizzie Price, Mary E. Worthington.
