JIPHY8TLI D6^PP npfJIZIIJE ♦ No. \Jf. Vol. XII, JULY, 1904. Price One Penny. We regret that we have not yet received the review of the Choral Festival which we promised last month should appear in this number. We still cling to the hope that the conductor will put his practised pen and musical experience at the service of our readers, and at the same give the choirs the benefit of his friendly criticism and advice, The living of Llangurig ha« been offered to the Rev. Gwilym Lewis, Curate of Carnarvon, who has accepted it. Mr. Lewis who took his degree at Oxford in 1894, was Curate of Dolgelly from 1895 to 1898, in which year he left for Carnarvon, where we understand he has been eminently succesful. He is a son of the Rev. William Lewis, Vicar of Abergynolwyn, who is better known among Welshmen as Gwilym Beru, and according to all accounts he inherits his father's literary tastes and abilities in full measure, The ceremonies connected with the leave-taking of the Vicar of Llangurig are chronicled under their proper heading, but we are sura that the readers of the Magazine without exception would desire us to give him from them in general a hearty send pff, and to wish him all possible success in the very arduous task he has undertaken at a time of life when most men would be seeking an easier and not a harder post, Arwystli willw atch his future progress with friendly and sympathetic eyes, ARWYSTLI M, U. BRANCH. This Brauch held its annual meeting this year on the 29th June in the Village Hall, Caersws- At 4 p.m., all tbe members sat down to an excellent tea very kindly given by Mrs. Lloyd-Verney, and sup¬ plied by Mr«. Hammonds of Caersws. After tea, the meeting was opened by the Rev. 0. Harding with prayer, and hymn 209 was sung, then the Rev. J. Jones. Vicar of Llanwnog with Caersws, spoke a few words and introduced Mrs. Pilkington from Llan« daff, who pave a most interesting aud plain address on " The Sanctity of Marriage," aud gave satisfac¬ tion to everyone present. Afterwards, Mrs. M, Jones gave a short report of work done in the Diocese. Mrs. E 0. Jones proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker, and was seconded by Mrs. Grant. Mrs. M. Jones proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Lloyd- Verney for her great kindness in giving tei to all the members, and also paying for the hiring of the Village Hall. She hoped other ladies would follow her example another year, it was seconded by Mrs. Richards. The meeting was closed bv the singiug of hymn 193, and all repeating the M. TJ. Prayer. Between 133 to 140 were present. The Rev. O. Harding as Curate of Caersws, enrolled 21 new members, 12 from Caersws, 6 from Llanidloes, and 3 from Caino parishes, Mrs. Williams of GHyngarth Palace, kindly sent white bouquets of flowers for all present. The members had their treat free, but the balance in hand from last year will not cover the travelling expenses, notwithstanding Mrs. Lloyd- Verney's generosity. The weather was most favour¬ able. LLANIDLOES. The tea to members of the Church of England Band of Hope will take place about the end of July, It was originally deferred from Easier for two reasons, firstly because it is more pleasant for children to have it out of doors with games c~tc, for which good weather is desirable, and secondly in the hope that Mr. Parker Jones who takes so great an interest in the Band of Hope might be able to be present. We mention these facts as we find there is a rumour about that there is not to be a tea, and that the money had been given to the Vicarage Fund, There is not a word of truth in, either part of the rumours, which we fear is to b$
