Hfl£839E4 ftPP^T BPf Pip * No. 121. Vol. XI. JANUARY, 1903. Price One Penny. GENERAL. I should be glad if in this New Year of 1903, "which I trust may he a very happy one for all in the Deanery of Arwystli, the correspondents would note these facts. The Magazine is published on the Saturday preceding the first Sunday in the month. To insure punctuality in this matter, all copy should be in my hands on the previous Saturday at the very latest The Magazine (local matter) consists of eight columns, each containing, roughly speaking, 300 words. The portion, again roughly speaking, allowed to each parish, should be in proportion to the number circulated in that parish. It has been my custom as at once General Secretary and Editor of the Llanid¬ loes portion, to wait until all the copy was in before I wrote my copy. The result is that although by circulation, we aro entitled to nearly half the space, we frequently only have a column. It would have been so this month, but that by some mischance, we have received no copy from Llanwnog or Caersws. Is it too much to ask of the courtesy of correspond¬ ents to proportion their contributions to a certain extent, and if they want more or less space than usual, to let me know that I may make arrangements accordingly ? A post card would serve the purpose, and is not expensive. EDMUND 0. JONES, Gen. Sec. LLANIDLOES. We wish all our readers a very Happy New Year. A review of the Parochial year from the Church point of view, will, we hope find space next month. The Annual Rummage Sale took place on Monday, December 22nd, and proved a great success both financially and otherwise. Mr. J. H. Williams took a prominent part, and besides organising a musical entertainment worked indefatigably in all directions with the assistance of many willing helpers headed by Mr- R. M. Davies- For the first time tickets were sold before-hand, and there is no doubt this partly acoounts for the unusual crush that was expeiieneed. After selling had proceeded briskly for a little over an hour, the musical programme was c >mmenced: in this Mr. S B. Massey played the most conspicuous part, both as a humourous vocalist and a conductor (under the name and guise of Madame Esbemazki) of the famous funicular band; Miss Evelyn Davies sang. Mr. Toss 0. Mills astonished us by his feats on the mouth organ, and the Misses Webb with Messrs. Arthur and Llewellyn Webb evoked sweet harmony from various instruments. Meanwhile Mrs. John Davies, L. & P. Bank, was plying a brisk trade in the tea room, where were various delicacies, eatable and drinkable. Contributions to the tea were sent by Mrs Davies, The Bank, Mrs. Lea Jones, Mrs- Onslow, Mrs. Davies-Jenkins, Mrs. Davies, Bryndwr. Mrs. Ellis, Mrs. D. A Lewis, Mrs. E. D. Davies. Mrs. Herbprt Roberts, Miss Annie Davies, Mr Geo. Roberts, Mrs. Webb, Mrs- Francis, Mrs. Kerr, Miss Bush, Mr. Ed. Hamer, Mrs. Yaughan Owen. Mrs, Evans, The Angel, and Mr. R. H. Richards, butcher- The following sent rummage parcels:—Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Webb, Mrs Paull, Mrs Onslow, Mrs. Thos. Humphreys, Sergt. Parker, Mr- Pryse, Pantdrain, Mrs- Davies The Bank, Mrs. Kineey, Brynllvs, Miss Roberts, The Unicorn, Mrs D. A. Lewis, Miss Bush, Mrs. Halford, and possibly others whosenames if they were overlooked in the hurry and confusion of unpacking and getting ready. Will all these and the host of willing helpers at the tea and other stalls with Mr. Tom Evans, who kindly kept the door, accept our heartiest thanks. Christmas Day was not a Christmassy day as far as weather was concerned, but it was devoutly kept by most of our people. A hundred and thirty six mus¬ tered at the four celebrations, •end there were good congregrations at eleven and at evening service- The anthem chosen was Barnby's " First Christmas," the first two parts being taken in the morning, and the latter half in the evening. The collection anljr offer¬ tories amounted to £4 6s 3d- which will be jflven to the Newtown Infirmary. The Church had been, as usual, prettily decorated, Mrs. Edmund Jones, Miss
