No. 119. Vql.X. NOVEMBER, 1902. Price One Penny. LLANIDLOES. The Harvest Festival Services were held as announced on October 15th and .16th, The congre¬ gation on Wednesday evening, though of course not a large one, was much larger than usual, which was no doubt due to the impression made by Ap Ceredigion at his last visit, two years ago- He gave us again an excellent and poetic sermon. Over thirty attended at 8-30 on Thursday, a number better than usual, but still falling short of what we might reasonably expect. At eleven we fell rather below the average. Of course, the fame of Dean Howell attracted an almost over-flowing congregation in. the evening, but the Churchwardens had made provision for a, crowd, and the chairs which they had prudently borrowed were sufficient to seat the extra worshippers- The Dean gave a characteristic exposition of St. Paul's maxim " Live peaceably with all men-" Age seems to abate his vigour no whit nor to -dull his eloquence- The music went well, and the rendering of the anthem "Great and Marvellous," seemed almost faultless. A feature of the day was the Childrens' Service at 3, when the '< cantata " The .Great Teacher " was beautifully j rendered. The following recited the various passages || pf scripture with which the music was interspersed:— j Fred Davies, Frank Jones, Arthur Alderson. Nellie Palmer, Lucy Palmer, Ida Hutchinson, Gwen Cleaton, ; Myfanwy Jones, Moggie Jones, Olive Jones and May Williams. The decorations, as usual, were ably earrie;d out by a number of ladies. The font owed its pleasing appearance to the skill always .displayed by Miss Marshall in an undertaking of this kind It was surmounted by a cross, and decorated with ever- j greens. Miss Grant and Mr fora Grant were respon¬ sible for the decoration of the two lower south windows, and also the le(ctern, which were very p etty. The Misses Webb, Woodbourne, showed much taste in the embellishment of the pulpit and side window. The altar rails and choir stalls were left to Miss Minnie Kerr, Summerfield, who made them present an attractive appearance. The windows on the north were prettily decorated by the Misses Griffiths, Commerce House, and Misa Bush, Brodawel. The following is a list of the donors of fruit baskets f c.:—Mrs. D. Kinsey, Brynllys, Mrs. Ellis, Trewy- then Hotel, the Misses and Master A. Roberts» Unicorn Hotel, Mrs. D. A. and Master J. Ewart Lewis, Brodawel, ICiss E- S- Jones, Close, Mies Louie Ingram. Phillip Rees, Secretary for Wales of the Church of England Incorporated Society for Providing Homes for Waifs and Strays, addressed a Drawing Room meeting at Maenol (kindly lent by Col and Mrs- Lea Jones), on October 1st, when between thirty and forty attended in response to Mrs. Lloyd Yerney's invitation. The meeting resulted in many promises for the future, and a very good collection on the spot. An eyening meeting with a lantern lecture by Mr. Rees was held the same day in the National Schools when the room was crowded, and a satis¬ factory collection resulted. We congratulate Mr R M.
