The next meeting of the Sunday School Association will be held at Carno, on Friday afternoon, May 19th, when the subject for discussion will be " The advisa¬ bility of restoring public catechising into the ordinary Evening Service, in accordance with the rubric in the Prayer Book.!' Cheap return tickets will be available if a sufficient number is forthcoming. LLANIDLOES. Once more the Vicar wishes to return his most grateful thanks to the congregations which on Easter lay contributed so liberally to his Easter Offerings. With an income which is getting smaller gradually, but only too regularly every year, such help is most acceptable, quite apart from the kind feeling it shows. During Holy Week Sermons were delivered on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening by the Vicar, and on Thursday by the Eev. J. E. Lloyd, Viear of Newbridge-on-Wye, who also gave the addresses at the 3 hours service on Good Friday, and his natural and easy delivery and practical medita¬ tions were much appreciated, Instead of the usual Cantata, suitable .Solos and Choruses from the Messiah were sung on Good Friday evening. The choir, although rather weak in Soprano and Alto did their work with admirable precision and Reflect. " Worthy is the Lamb," though, somewhat iheavy for the numbers was gone through in good Myle The solos were taken by Mra. John Davies, fho sang •• He was dispised " with, great taste and feeling, and bv Mr. Tom Phillips, to whom was allotted " Thou did'st not leave His Soul in Hell." lies Marshall presided at the Organ with* her usual smciency. The Lord Bishop of the Diocese wi|l ho^d a Confir¬ mation Service in the Parish Church, on Sunday, May 14th, at 3 o'clock, The Church Choral Society's Fifth Annual Concert on Tuesday, May 2nd, was a conspicuous success, in fact it is scarcely too much to say it was the greatest musical treat we nave had for very many years. The first part consisted of Sterridale Bennett's " May Queen " and this lasted about an hour, and though choruses and solos were admirably rendered the audience had apparently not yet warmed up. After the interval, however, it was evident that they settled down determined to enjoy everything. The choir rendered the difficult glee " Loid Ellin's Daughter" with much expression and fire, aud Miss Higgs followed with " May Day " which produced universal calls for an encore, which, however, was not given. Miss Winnie Stephens delighted the house with "a perfect rendering of " Y Bachgen Ffarweliodd a'i Wlad " (with " A Summer Shower " as an encore song), and later with " A Lady of Lea." But the enthusiasm only reached fever heat when Mr. Maldwyn Humphreys sang " The River of Dart," and ga^ie "Mary Lee" in Welsh and English as-an encore, His next song, (i The Cup of Life," was, if possible, a still finer one, though its did not win so universal approval. Mr. Emlyn Davies was squally successful in enlisting the sympathies of the audience. His per¬ fect phrasing and voice production combined with a most sympathetic manner, fairly, brought down the house when he sang " The Sailor's Grave," and as an encore he gave some amusing verses in Welsh .and English to the old air " Captain Morgan," and later on in quite a different style he was equally at home with " Hen Wlad y Cenin " .There was a splendid house, and we understand the receipts will cover the heavy expenditure. Our thanks are due to the Society and. its able Conductor and Secretary, to Mrs. Lea Jones, who has so kindly accompanied, to the ladies who sold tickets, Miss Jones, Miss Griffiths, Miss Kinsey, Miss Gwen Kerr, and Miss Wilkes, and to all who in any way contributed to the success of the concert. AU Churehmen must feel glad that the long con¬ templated and much needed task iof cleauiug the Pariah; Church has been at last accomplished. Every one must have been struck with the changed appear¬ ance jt presented,, when after having services in the School on the 2nd Sunday after Easter,we returned to
