Brw^stli IDeanen? flfoagasme* Vol. 2. DECEMBER, 1894. No. 24. LLANIDLOES, A sale of work will take place at the Public Booms, on Wednesday, December 5th, when all the things not sold at the Bazaar last year will be offered to the public at greatly reduced prices, together with a large number of additional articles of great beauty and value. The sale will be opened at 2 p.m. by Daniel Davies, Esq., Mayor of Llanidloes. A chorus of some twenty children in fancy dress will take part in the opening ceremony. The price for admission will be 6d. up to 6 p.m., and 8d. after that hour. During the afternoon Mr. Bywater, of Liverpool, will give, for the first time in Great Britain, performances with his grand new phonograph, which he has just brought over from America. The charge for these performances, which are well worth 2s., and which, in fact, are about to be given in some neighbouring parishes at that price, will be the merely nominal one of 6d. At 8 o'clock will be exhibited the largest and most beautifully decorated Christmas Tree ever seen in the borough. Every article on the tree will be sold at a uniform price of 6d., though many will far exceed that sum in value, and none be worth less. S.P.Gf.—On Monday, December the 3rd, the Bev. Gr. H. Tovey, late Bector of S. Alban the Martyr, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, will give a lecture on that country in the National Schoolroom at 8 p.m. The lecture will be illustrated by a new set of lantern slides prepared from Mr. Tovey's own photo¬ graphs. Admission will be free, but a collection on behalf °f the society will be made at the door. Children under 14 will not be admitted to the evening lecture, but Mr. Tovey has kindly consented to give a separate lecture for children in the afternoon, admission, one Penny. The collections on Sunday, December 2nd, "Will be devoted to the same society, when the sermons "^ill be preached by the Bev. W. Vaughan Jones, Sector of Tregynon. The prizes won by the pupils of the National Schools during the past year, for regularity,Scripture knowledge, general attainments, and needlework, will be given to them on December 14th, at 7 p.m., when Mr. Cope will §Jve a lantern entertainment. We congratulate Miss Alice Coates upon the high place she has taken in the Diocesan Examination. She stands third in the whole diocese among pupil teachers of her vear. A public tea will take place at the Public Booms, on Boxing Day, December 26th, to commence at 5 p.m., to be followed by a Dramatic and Musical Entertainment. Tickets Is., to be obtained of Miss Marshall, Severn View, who will be greatly obliged if those who intend to come will buy their tickets on or before Saturday, December 22nd. To defray the debt—some £23—still remaining on the organ, Miss Ikin is good enough to organize a Bummage Sale. The date is not finally fixed, but it will be prob¬ ably a few days before Christmas. We will remind our readers that the restoration was undertaken as a memorial to our late popular and beloved Vicar, and we are sure that everyone will make an effort to pay off the debt. The balance sheet, which we hope to publish next month, will show that a comparatively small sum has been raised by subscription in the parish. But everyone can help at a Bummage Sale. We were told by a neighbouring clergyman that when such sales were held in his parish everyone sent something. Every little helps, and a little help from all would see the debt paid. Con¬ tributions may be sent at any time to Miss Ikin, Vaynor Park, or to the Schoolroom on the day of the sale but the earlier the better. We notice that Dramatic Entertainments will be given on behalf of the Working Men's Institute on December 18 and 19. No institution better deserves the support of the public, and we hope they may have " bumper " houses. W.H.S.—The new season commenced with a very snccessful concert kindly got up for the girls by Miss Ikin, on Wednesday, November 21st. The following, to whom we offer our best thanks, gave their services:— Miss Marshall,Mrs. T. Phillips,Miss Paull and Miss L. Ikin, with the Bev. W. D. Boberts and Messrs. John Jones, Tom Phillips, Charles Owen and Gr. W. Cope.
