Sermons will be preached to-morrow ( Advent Sunday ), and an address given at the children's ser¬ vice, on behalf of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, by the Rev. A. VV. M. Weatherly, of Oswestry. The collections will be giv¬ en to the Society. On Christmas Day there will be four celebrations of the Holy Communion, viz:—at 8, 9 (English), 10 (Welsh), and after midday service (English). It is earnestly hoped that all Communicants will endeavour to offer the "service of praise and thanksgiving " on this day of joy and gladness. It is intended to hold a Rummage Sale the week before Christmas, probably on Thursday, December 21st. The proceeds will go to lessen the Debt on the Organ, which still amounts to about £40. All are implored to ran-sack their houses, and to pester their friends for any articles whatsoever, in preparation for the sale. . A Branch of the Young Men's Friendly Society has been started, and three meetings have been held. The Mental Recreation Society, in connection with the Branch, meets every Monday in the National School, at 8 o'clock. On Monday, November 27th the President (the vicar) gave a sketch of the future possibilities, advantages, and management of the Parish Room. The sketch took the form of a dream induced (he said) by much pondering on the subject, ^n which he had undertaken to read a paper. Mr. ¥> Mills read an interesting paper entitled "A gamble in Lancashire." The programme (not yet eomplete) for the Winter session is as follows :— Pec. 4th—Impromptu speaking. >, 11th—Readings. ,, 18th—Debate. A Municipal Water Supply for Llanidloes —" To be or not to be ? " *W 8th—Social Evening. >, 15th—Essays. „ 22nd—Debate. " Aie strikes justifiable ? " „ 29th—Speeches on (L) Dancing, (2) Smoking. Feb. 5th—Recitations by the President, interspersed with songs. „ 12th—Essays. " Wool, from the sheep to the shop." Mr, Fred W. Davies. „ 19th—Readings. „ 26th—Debate. ''Is total abstinence a Christ¬ ian duty ? " Mch. 5th—Essays. "The study of Welsh." Rev. W. D. Roberts. „ 12th— Songs and Recitations. A Welsh Class has been started in connection with the Society, and promises to be a flourishing Institu¬ tion. It meets every Tuesday at 8 o'clock in the Infant Schoolroom. The Manchester Guardian has the following item in its Welsh Musical Notes. " "We are informed that a Church choral society has been formed in connection with the Parish Church, Llanidloes, which promises to be highly successful. The vicar of the parish has accept¬ ed the office of president, with Mr. Tom Phillips as conductor, and Mr. C. Owen, as honorary secretary". The society meets every Wednesday, in the Na¬ tional School, at 8 o'clock, preceded by a Solfa Class under the care of Mr. J. M. Evans, at 7-30. The following are the committee :—the Vicar (President), Rev. W. I). Roberts (Vice President), Miss Marshall. Miss H. F. Ikin, Mr. Tom Phillips, Mr. J. M. Evans, Mr. G. W. Cope, Mr. C. Owen (Secretary). A successful Concert for the benefit of the Church Sunday School, was held on Wednesday, November 15th, in which the following kindly took part :— Mrs E. Hughes, Misses F. Jerman, L.Ikin, A. Coa.tes E. J. Davies, Marshall, Messrs. C. Owen, T. Phillips (the Arcade), Q. W. Cope, W. E. Jerman, Tom Phillips and the Vicar, to all of whom thanks are due. We also thank Mr. T. Evans for acting as door-keeper on the occasion. We are glad to add that a fair amount was realized.
