472 BYE-GONES. Oct. 3, 1900. Wit fate Hcb. <£ Jft. $o*crick of lUutbon. We regret to record the death of the Rev Evan Morgan Roderick, M.A., vicar of Ruabon. Soon after his presentation to the living, three years ago, Mr Roderick's health gave way, and he had to spend much time abroad. Only a few weeks ago he returned to England after a prolonged stay at Bad Nauheim, and about three weeks ago he re¬ turned to Ruabon from St. Asaph in feeble health. The end came on Sunday morning, Sept. 16, and during the day reference was made to the loss the parish had sustained by the preacher at the parish church, the Rev J. W. Thomas. Mr Roderick was educated at Llandovery Col¬ lege, under the present Bishop of St Asaph. Pro¬ ceeding to Jesus College, Oxford, he gained a scholarship of £80, and took a second class in Moderations, and a third class in Litem Human!- ores. After taking his degree he returned to the Principality to take up the post of assistant master at Llandovery. He was ordained by the Bishop of St David's in 1885, and became curate of St Peter's, Carmarthen, under Dr Edwards. When Dr Edwards was appointed to the bishopric of St Asaph he appointed Mr Roderick as his chaplain and private secretary. He held the office of domestic chaplain from 1889 to 1891, when he became examining chaplain to the Bishop. A vacancy occurring in the Vicarage of Mold in 1892, he was appointed to that charge, and there he endeared himself to his numerous parishioners. Evincing a keen interest in educational matters, he was elected a member of the School Board at Mold. In September, 1897, he became vicar of Ruabon, in succession to the late Canon Wood Edwards, a brother of the Bishop of St Asaph. Mr Roderick was unmarried. The funeral took place on Thursday, the remains being buried in the Ruabon Cemetery. OCTOBER 3, 1900. NOTES.
