Jan. 3, 1900. BYE-GONES. 265 JANUARY 3, 1900. NOTES. A SHROPSHIRE CENTENARIAN.-"1713, Oct. 17. John Typton, aged about 102, was buried." (Shrawardine Parish Register.) J.E.A. NEW YEAR'S GIFTS.—I believe the old custom of children running round the neighbour¬ hood early on New Year's morning, and either singing, or shouting, for New Year's Gifts is dying out, especially in some parts of the coun¬ try, and it would be interesting if some of the words recited, or sung, were preserved. It would be more interesting still if the authors of either the words or the music could be given. I enclose a few specimens from North Cardigan¬ shire, but I am unable to say who were the authors of the music, or of the words.
