Rowlands, solicitor, attended on behalf of the Urban Council and the Calvinigtic Methodist Connexion, the Rev D. T. Hughes, curate of the parish, on behalf of the Rev Canon Trevor, and the Rev Josiah Jones on behalf of trie Graig Independent Chapel. No r.ew charities were discovered other than those scheduled by the County Council.— The Commissioner mentioned that the manner in which some of the charities were distributed was not satisfactory. There were doles, also, which had not been distributed for several years. MAY 3, 1899. NOTES. A ROBIN SUPERSTITION.—I never heard the following bit of superstition until last week. " Dont you know " said a friend to me "that young Robins kill the old ones ? " " Do they really ? " I said. " I should not be surprised ; for a like law is common enough outside robin life." She said that they said so in South Wales, and that was the reason why robins were so scarce. I was also told that birds buried their dead, and that a friend had witnessed the performance, and that was why dead birds were never dis¬ covered lying about. E.O.
