BYE-GONES. 67 Drink water translates and extends the " Grant of a Market and Fair at Chetwynd to Sir John de Chetwynd, 17th July, 1318," the Rector of Wem contributes a paper on " The Parish Registers of Waters Upton," and the following papers are continued :—The Hon. Mrs Bulkeley- Owen's "History of Selattyn," "Notes on the Parish of Chelton," by the Rev R. C. Purton, "Abstract of Grants and Charters in the Chartulary of Wombridge Priory," and " History of Shrewsbury Hundred and Liber¬ ties," edited by the Rev W. G. D. Fletcher. To this part are added the " Second Report on Parish Registers, and an Index of Archteological Papers published in 1895," both issued under the direction of the Congress of Archaeological Societies. APRIL 7, 1897. NOTES. Admiral Rodney.—A curious blunder occurs on page 202, col. 1, of Bye-Gones for 1893-4. The name " Admiral Benbow" is twice printed for "Admiral Rodney." POINTING AT THE RAINBOW.-There is one Border superstition which I think is believed in to this day, viz., "Never upon any account to point at the rainbow," or the result would be thab either the hand or arm, or both, would be paralysed. Three-cornered, Worthen. Three-square, Chetwynd. An adjective used to denote ill tem¬ per. When a man is in a " three cornered " humour he is " ready to quarrel with his finger ends," and in a mood which will not fit in with anything. DINAS MAWDDWY EISTEDDFOD, 1855. —This Eisteddfod is frequently mentioned as a very important one—quite a National Eisteddfod in its time. It was held in a pavilion specially erected on a piece of common land called Dolybont, close to the village. After a great deal of search and enquiry extending for nearly thirteen years, I have at last succeeded in obtaining the loan of a copy of the list of Subjects and Prizes ; and readers of Bye-Gones will now be able to compare ib with those of our great Eisfceddfodau of the pre¬ sent day, as well as those held at Abergavenny wad. other places in the forties.
