Oct., 1881. BYE-GONES. 309 OCTOBER 5, 1881. THE BLAYNEY FAMILY (Sep. 14, 1831).—LEGO, writing re¬ specting a steel engraving by Hardy of a portrait by Beechey, A.R.A., of Arthur Blayney, Esq., asks where the original picture is preserved ? Edromo informs us that these en¬ gravings are well known in Montgomeryshire, and that he believes the painting is at Gregynog, or possibly at Tedding- ton. NOTES. SEVENTEENTH CENTURY TOKENS. (June 8, 1881.) NORTH AND SOUTH WALES. The tokens of the Principality are a small but interest¬ ing series. About half the number issued in North Wales are pennies, while among those of South Wales there is only one recorded, and this one is, I expect, wrongly de¬ scribed and should be included in North Wales. In the large proportion of pennies North Wales resembles its border counties of Chester and Salop, for among them are more tokens of this value than in all the English counties be¬ sides. Several of the Welsh pennies are no larger than the ordinary halfpenny or farthing tokens. It is also worthy of note that the first penny token issued in the following century, of which we are hearing a good deal of late, was a Welsh one, viz., the Anglesey or Druid penny of 1787.
