The only objection which I think can be made to preferring Coffee is that it is two or three years longer before it begins to make Returns than Sugar. But in the present case that objection is greatly obviated (inde- pendent of the above arguments) by your view being more to make a future Provision for your Family than to enjoy immediate Revenue for yourself by this Engagement; and therefore the less the Expence at which you can make that Provision the better, although you may lose two or three years in time. I am so convinced of the Propriety of what I propose, that I am resolved to proceed upon those principles 'till I hear from you upon the Subject; and by that means make the Expence easy both to you and myself, after the Settlement is commenced and the Cultiva- tion fairly set and going. I had almost forgot to mention to you that there will be a Delay in taking out the Grants, occasioned by a dispute between the Governor General of the Ceded Islands and the Governor of Dominica about the right of putting the Great Seals to the Patents in this Island; owing to an ommission in the new Commission and Warrant forming the Great Seal to the Governor of Dominica, upon its being separated from the Government of Gren- ada; and until this Right is determined I think it will be plunder to delay taking out the Grants.
