THE ROYAL INSTITUTION. The Royal Institution of South Wales, on the edge of Swansea's modern dockland is in its hundred and fifteenth year, and until the Guildhall was built almost a century later, it was Swansea's most important building It houses Swansea's musuem with its. famous collections, but unfortunately the building suffered serious damage from heavy bombing during the Second World War-for while it providentially escaped direct hits, it suffered shatteringly from high explosive blast which played havoc with the roofs, ceilings and windows. The exhibits were safely evacuated The building is now closed for repair and renovation, and so the Gower Society has been grateful to find accommodation in the Swansea Central Library. But our headquarters is still in the Royal Institution and we look forward eagerly to carrying on our work there in the near future-feeling that great as is its past history- the best is yet to come. When it is re-opened, the public of South Wales will owe a great debt of gratitude to the Council of the Royal Institution for putting up a magnificent fight to get the place put in decent order after the ravages of war. The future is now secure and our joy is great to see our parent institution struggling gallantly to its feet, after cruel blows of fate.
