THE POWYS-LAND CLUB. Annual Meeting 28th December, 1928. The 61st ANNUAL MEETING was held at the Royal Oak Hotel, Welshpool, on December 28th, 1928. The President, The Earl of Powis, presided over an attendance of 32 members and a number of visitors, and was supported by the Hon. Secretaries, Mr. T. Simpson Jones and Mr. A. Stanley Davies and the Joint Editors of the Club's Transactions," Professor H. J. Fleure, M.A., Aberystwyth and Mr. R. U. Sayce, M.A., Cambridge. The Hon. Secretaries in their Annual Report stated This is the 61st Report of the Club and we can say that the Club has every prospect of continuation. Although we have to lament the loss of the following members, Messrs. Issard Davies, W. Sinclair Jones, Dr. Marston and Major-General Sandbach we are pleased to welcome a number of new members, Mrs. Marshall, Rhysnant Sir H. Harmood-Banner, Mr. J. J. Turner, Mr. Wynn Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Meredith Thomas, Major Hamilton Pryce, Mr. J. M. Pearson, Mr. John Ward, Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Davies, Mr. David Lloyd and Mr. Thomas Pryce, and we will ask for their election to be formally proposed and seconded later on in the meeting. The finances of the Club are satisfactory. After paying for the new Volume there is a balance in hand of £ 70, and there is also a further sum due from members who have not yet paid their subscriptions. Notice has been issued to them and we hope these arrears will be cleared off within the next few days. The investment of £ 358 of Queensland Stock has been transferred to War Loan, improving our income by the amount of income tax previously deducted. The Club continued the excavation of the Rcman Fort at the Gaer, Forden, during the month of August. We must again thank Lt.-Col. Harrison and Mr. Thomas Williams for the facilities they have given the Club. A report on this work will be presented to the meeting by Mr. F. N. Pryce, but we may say that his fort shows a very close connection with Uriconium and like Uriconium was occupied at an early date and continued its existence as a civil settlement long after the Legions departed. There is, however, a deficit on the cost of the excavations of nearly £ 100. It is hoped that members and others interested will endeavour to clear off this sum, and as an incentive we mention that Mr. J. D. Marshall only yesterday gave £ 5 towards this fund. The new Editors have completed Volume 40 except the title page and list of contents which w ill be issued very shortly. The production has been very favourably reviewed. We regret losing the services of Mr. Estyn Evans, M.A., as Assistant Editor on his
