A friend of mine has recently acquired a charming little book which is new to me and perhaps to most of your readers. FLAMMA SINE FUMO: OR POEMS WITHOUT FICTIONS. By R. W. LONDON, 1662 [duodecimo]. The author dedicates it to The Honorable Colonel Sir Herbert Prise, Knight, The staffe of his Family, and the honor of his Countrey' and signs himself ROWLAND WATKYNS. The book comprises 147 pages, and contains poems in Latin and English to and on many people of note in South Wales, and on other subjects. The coronation of Charles II. is the subject of an English poem on p. 9 and on page 10 is one of six stanzas to William Lucy, bishop of St. Davids. 'Ad vere pium & reverendissimum in Christo Patrem, Gulielmum Lucy, permissione divina Episcopum Meneven- sem, necnon Lumen Walliae splendidissimum.' A play on the name Lucy was inevitable.
