THE JOURNAL OF THE Welsh Bibliographical Society VOL. II. JULY, 1916. No. i. A Forgotten Welsh Historian (WILLIAM DAVIES, 1756-1823) Or the Fringe of a Glamorgan MS. I. Through the incentive given by the National Eisteddfod, many pens in Wales were busy, during the early years of the twentieth century, compiling collective biographies of Welshmen (of the period, 1700-1900) who were thought notable or eminent in theology, law, literature, the arts and sciences, &c. Five of these compilers gave hostages to fortune and delight to their fellow-countrymen by putting the fruit of their labours into print, as follows Jones, Edward. Rhestr o Enwogion Cymreig o 1700 i 1900. Rhan 1. 19o8. Morgan, Thomas. Enwogion Cymreig (1700-1906). Cyf. 1. 1907. Rees, T. Mardy. Notable Welshmen (1700-1900). 1908. Roberts, T. R. Eminent Welshmen. 1908. Rowland, E. H. A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Welshmen 1700 to 1900. 1907.
