The seventh annual dinner in connection with the local branch of the Postmen's Federation was held at the Imperial Hotel. Among the guests invited were the Mayor (Councillor Stanford), the postmaster (Mr. C. R. Thomas), Mr. R. E. Tudor (superintendent), and Mr. T. Alhtt (U.K.P., T.O.A.) After dinner a capital musical programme was sustained by Messrs. T. Allitt, T. Jones, C. G. Davies, Arthur Lea, E Richards, D. W. Hughes and Sydney Jones (accom¬ panist). The excellent arrangements were in the capable hands of the manageress (Miss Mollineux). A special parade of the Denbighshire Constabulary was held at the County Buildings, Wrexham, on the 8th ult., when P.C. B. Powell, of Llantysilio, was presented with the bronze medal of the Royal Humane Society for gallantry in rescuing Kendrick Hughes, son of Dr. Hughes, from drowning in the Dee at, Llangollen in August. The presentation was made by Major Leadbetter, who was supported by the Mayor of Wrexham (Councillor Stanford), Mr. Simon Jones, D.C.C. Jones, and Inspectors TlPpett and Harvey. Major Leadbetter said in addition to the medal of the «oyal Humane Society, the King, having been informed of this brave act, had awarded P.C. Powell the King's medal, which would be presented later on, possibly by the Lord •Lieutenant of the county. P.C. Pcwell, the recipient of the medal, is a native o Mold. He joined the Liverpool Force, but soon transferred to Denbighshire, where he has served at Wrexham, Llan¬ gollen, and Llantysilio. He rescued Dr. Hughes's son from a dangerous part of the Dee at Llangollen when he was sinking for the third time. The King and Queen have granted their patronage to the National Eisteddfod of Wales for the year 1911. It is announced that in addition to the two choirs from Scranton, Pennsylvania, which will compete at the Eisteddfod, the choir of the Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, will also compete. This is the choir that took the second prize at the choral competition at the International Eisteddfod in connection with the World's Fair at Chicago. The work of constructing the new colliery ai Gresford is proceeding apace, and it will not be long before the quiet vale of the Alyn will be an important centre of the coal-mining industry. The first statutory meeting of the Wrexham Skating Rink Company was held at the Imperial Hotel, on the 3rd ult., Mr Walter Roberts (chairman of the Directors) presiding. Hawkins, of Beechley, went to China for the purpose of making inquiries, on the spot, regarding the woiking and administration of the London Missionary Society's opera¬ tions over their very large field of labour in the Kar E ist. We are pleased to learn that Mr Hawkins is well and happy, and that he considers he is making grand progress with the matter in hand. There were again no public examinations at Wrexham Bankruptcy Court during last month.
